Gratitude * Sunday

I am joining the very special Taryn of  Wooly Moss Roots by
listing the things I have been grateful for this week.

{Sunday's heartfelt tradition. A time to slow down, to reflect, to be grateful. A list of gratitudes.}

The Hawthorn tree in my garden... it's gorgeous scent and it's beautiful blossom,
that is scattered over everything nearby, like confetti at a wedding.

~
My comfortable bed... I had a migraine this week and spent the majority of one day in bed, my lovely bed.
~
Being kind and gentle to myself... especially after my migraine.
~
All the wonderful plants, herbs and vegetables
that are growing in my garden and at the allotment.
The weather has been perfect... warmth, sunshine and some showers.
~
Selling some things that we had in our house and no longer wanted.... providing us with a little extra cash.
~
The look on my eldest daughters face after I gave her a back massage.
She said she felt so relaxed and loved.
~
Our lovely cats.
~
Winning Lilli's May Book Away... "To help spin some of the golden threads to the meaning of life, sharing and reading, we came up with our own kind of give away - a book away."... isn't she wonderful.

My little home... it's old and rustic, just the way I like it.

Hearing my girls play the ukele and guitar.
~
My hair growing... especially after reading this
~
Finding some excellent second hand clothing...
a dress for me, leggings for Izzy, some t-shirts for Rosie, and jeans for Steve ( all the clothing we are wearing in the photos below are second hand... Reducing, Reusing and Recycling ).
~
Seeing a small improvement in Rosie...
She is sleeping less, can concentrate for longer, and is able to do some on line study ( although studying is not so important to me, it is a good sign, a step in the right direction ).  And even though she doesn't feel great, or anywhere near normal she looks much more like her 'usual' self.

Love, loveliness...

much love beautiful people... I hope your
week is filled with kindness.

Thinking about Henry S. Salt

I recently borrowed a book from the library called 'Life of Henry David Thoreau' by Henry S. Salt ( 1951 - 1939 )
It was great to read about the life of Thoreau, but it was also wonderful to learn about the author Salt.
A  rationalist, socialist, pacifist, vegetarian, animals' rights activist, prison reformer, naturalist, and conservationist, Salt was born in India in 1851, he was the son of a British colonel.  He returned to England in 1852. Salt attended Eton college and then Cambridge university. After graduating from Cambridge he taught Classics at Eton college, and was disgusted by his fellow masters' reliance on servants and their meat eating habits. In 1884 he moved with his wife to a small cottage in Surrey where they grew their own vegetables and lived a very simple life. He engrossed himself in writing and in his later years was committed to what he called " The Creed of Kinship"~
a belief  " that in years yet to come there will be a recognition of the brotherhood between man and man,
nation and nation, human and sub-human, which will transform a state of semi-slavery,
as we have it, into one of civilization, when there will be no such barbituary as warfare, or the robbery of the poor by the rich, or the ill-usage of the lower animals by mankind."
Isn't the Creed of Kinship wonderful... I think so.
Peace to you all.

Everything is simply happy

" Look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars... and if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful. Everything is simply happy. Trees are happy for no reason; they are not going to become prime ministers or presidents and they are not going to become rich and they will never have a bank balance. Look at the flowers - for no reason. It is simply unbelievable how happy flowers are."
